Key Features and Benefits of Composite Decking
Low Maintenance
Unlike traditional wood decking, composite decking requires no staining, sealing, or painting. Simply sweeping your deck to keep it free of detritus, and seasonal washing will keep your decking looking brand new, year-round.
Weather-Resistant
Our composite decking is engineered to withstand the harshest weather conditions, including rain, frost, and UV rays, ensuring no cracking, warping, or fading over time.
Durable and Long-Lasting
Crafted from a robust composite material, composite decking resists scratches, stains, and wear, making it ideal for high-traffic areas, family gardens, or outdoor spaces exposed to more extreme weather.
Slip-Resistant Surface
The textured surface of composite decking provides excellent grip, even in wet conditions, ensuring safety for families and pets. Composite decking’s high slip resistance makes it an ideal choice for use around swimming pools.
Sustainable Choice
DesignBoard Composite Decking is made from 50% rice husks (a byproduct of rice milling), while our Brushed and Grooved Composite Decking is made from 50% bamboo fibres (a naturally sustainable plant), supporting sustainable living without compromising on quality or aesthetics.
Beautifully Versatile
With a variety of colours and finishes, DesignBoard complements any outdoor style, from contemporary to traditional designs. Composite decking can be used across a multitude of outdoor applications, from stylish terraces to circular bases for fire its, and pool surrounds and steps. Decking can be used on its own across an area of any size or paired with other hard landscaping materials such as natural stone or porcelain paving. With a wide range of colours to choose from to suit your chosen style, Cheshire Paving Stones’ composite decking has a product to suit you.
Superior Finish
Unlike timber decking which needs to be screwed through to secure, Cheshire Paving Stones’ composite decking range is crafted with an ingenious ‘hidden clip system’, which leaves the boards clear of screws through the top of each board, leaving you with a clean, crisp, finish.
Composite Decking Installation Hints & Tips
Installing our composite decking is a straightforward and efficient process, ensuring a hassle-free experience for professionals and DIY enthusiasts alike. Here are some hints and tips to ensure a flawless installation:
Preparation:
Ensure that the area to be decked is even, clear of debris, and well-draining.
Subframe:
Construct a sturdy subframe using treated timber or composite joists. This ensures the decking remains level and secure over time.
Deck Boards:
Due to the decking board’s naturally expanding (on length, not width), we recommend storing composite decking boards in a cool, dry place (a shady spot or garage, etc.) for 24 - 48 hours prior to installation.
Secure the decking boards using the hidden fixing clips provided. This creates a sleek, seamless finish without visible screws or nails.
Allow for Expansion:
Leave adequate space (4mm between boards, 4mm between ends, 10mm around perimeter) between boards to accommodate slight expansion and contraction caused by temperature changes.
Add Finishing Touches:
Install any required edging or fascia boards for a polished, professional finish.
Clean and Enjoy:
Once installed, give your new decking a quick clean, and it’s ready to use. Sit back and enjoy your stunning new outdoor space!
Composite Decking FAQs
What is composite decking made of?
Composite decking is made from a blend of polymers and fibres, combining the look of natural wood with the durability and low maintenance of synthetic materials.
Is composite decking eco-friendly?
Yes, composite decking is part-crafted from sustainable materials (rice husks or bamboo) and designed to minimise environmental impact while providing a long-lasting alternative to timber decking.
How do I maintain my composite decking?
Maintenance is straightforward. Simply wash with warm soapy water or use a pressure washer to remove dirt and debris. No staining, sealing, or painting is required. Depending on the type of mark or stain on the decking, chemicals might need to be used to clean your decking.
Does composite decking fade or warp over time?
No, composite decking is engineered to resist fading, warping, and cracking, even in extreme weather conditions. Its UV resistance ensures colours stay vibrant for years.
Do all boards look the same?
No. Although base colour tones are considered consistent, there is a range of grain patterns across boards. This is to ensure a more natural finish, when installed. For this reason, we recommend ensuring any colour variation present is evenly distributed across the decked area.
Is the surface of composite decking slip-resistant?
Yes, the textured surface provides excellent slip resistance, ensuring safety even in wet or icy conditions.
Can composite decking be cut and drilled like wood?
Yes, DesignBoard can be cut and drilled using standard woodworking tools, making installation simple and fuss-free.
Can I put my fire pit on composite decking?
The suitability of fire pits on decks depends on heat exposure and fire pit type. Wood-burning fire pits and chimineas are not recommended due to high heat and ember risks. Ethanol and gas fire bowls/tables can be used if they are raised (300mm for ethanol, 350mm for gas), not entirely metal, and allow airflow underneath to prevent heat buildup.
Is Cheshire Paving Stones’ composite decking suitable for commercial use?
Yes. Its durability, low maintenance, and slip resistance make it an excellent choice for commercial projects, including restaurants, hotels, and public spaces.
Yes, at the end of its lifespan, DesignBoard can be recycled, further contributing to its eco-friendly credentials.
